today, i can’t seem to get past Elvis’ “Everyday I Write The Book”. it’s sandwiched between Elton John’s “Tiny Dancer” and Elvis’ “Veronica,” but i keep hitting the back button. i don’t want to move on. i just want to listen to Elvis’ write the book.
one of these days i’m gonna make a mix cd of just songs about writing and reading. it’ll include the beatles’ “paperback writer,” soul coughing’s “screenwriter’s blues,” jets to brazil’s, “orange rhyming dictionary” and a bunch of other songs i’ll have to think of.
It would naturally have to include my favorite reading/writing song, Bread’s Diary.

28 Jan 03 at 8:49 am #Bread’s “Diary”!?!? That song is very, very, uber depressing. I rememer being 5 and thinking that the song was a downer. Now I think it’s a about a stalker; It might as well begin, “I broke into her house when she left for work and found her diary underneath the floor-boards where she hid it…”
It’s almost as disturbing as the song “Ain’t too proud to beg”; “You say you wanna leave me, but I refuse to let you go…” Big red alarm bells ringing when I hear THAT line.
And don’t get me started about The Police’s “Every breath you take” (Sting himself even admitted that it’s about an “unhealthy obsession with another person”.)
