how old are you? how young am i?

i was driving home from a night on the bluffs. it’s a bit chilly, and i had ruby’s driver-side window all the way down. i was doing 65 in a 45 on 35E just past 7th, and i heard that jangly opening bit of “I Will Dare” that i love so goddamn much float out through the speakers and i nearly wept with the perfectness of Zone 105’s timing.

tonight 14-year-old jodi who i still carry around with me, had her dream come true. you see, 14-year-old jodi spent a lot of time reading bad, bad romance novels. 14-year-old jodi was about 6′3″ and had come to conclusion, all on her own, that she was much too tall to ever experience the kind of things she read in those books that she loved so much.

but, tonight she stood up and a man put his arms around her and he pulled her close and she had to lift her head a bit to rest her chin on his shoulder. she even got to rest her forehead against his chest and have him whisper things in her ear she only read about in books.

and even 31-year-old jodi could not control the sigh that escaped. the sigh that had been waiting to escape for some 17 years. and because i still love that young, naive girl, i said, “this is something i’ve dreamed about my whole life.”
“i know,” the TTHM said, “i could tell you needed this.”

then i just stood there and looked up, yes, up, into his eyes and said nothing. because it’s hard to say anything when your head is racing and your heart is pounding and the 14-year-old girl buried deep inside of you is swooning and yelling, “ITOLDYOUSOITOLDYOUSO.”

it was only a second undate, let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves (though it’s terribly hard not to).

Things I Want to Tell You

Someone needs to invent a bug repellent spray that not only keeps the mosquitoes away but includes some sort of anti-itch stuff to keep the bites you've already gotten from itching like crazy. [+]

Interview #2 at place I would enjoy working at went really well. I'm pretty pumped. [+]

Can I get an AMEN! This woman responds to the Jezebel Hullabaloo the way I wish I could have, had I not been blacking out with the rage. I agree that drinking a lot and having a lot of sex with different men is not feminism. It might be your lifestyle choice and a lot of fun -- go you, but it has nothing at all to do with being a feminist. I think once I simmer down a bit, I will chalk up the whole Hullabaloo to a few drunk 20something girls being stupid and naive, because, that's what 20something girls do. We've all done it, and not to get all sage woman of the earth, but something changes for women when they turn 30. I don't know what it is, I cannot define it, but other woman will agree 30 is a magical age where suddenly you seem more yourself, you think before you speak, you look back at your 20something self and realize what an idiot you were, but you still love that girl. I'm just hoping these Jezebel-girls will be so kind to their 20something selves when they look back at how absolutely foolish they were. {via fimoculous, whose comments are all men discussing the issue which makes me a little sad}. I had avoided the whole Jezebel hullabaloo until this morning when I was reading Mediation's thoughts on the nonsense. I followed his links to the Metafilter discussion and it was after watching the video there that I blacked out from sheer rage. I'm so angry I can't even write anything coherent. [+]

I just applied for a for reals job for the first time since 2000 (three fors in one sentence, go me). I feel a little like I'm going to barf. I forgot how nerve-wracking it is to want something like this. [+]

"Never mind that while he was on my ass about being in lust with a celebrity who lives in France and has two children with a French model, Greg was in love with a girl from, you know, like, down the street." Peabo cracks me up. [+]
