“hey jodi, can i use your pencil,” jess asked. “maybe not THE pencil, but any pencil.”
“i only have one pencil,” i said pulling out the purple mechanical wunderpencil from my purse and handing it to her.
“oh,” she said. “i’ll be careful.”
“use its power wisely.”
“i’ll try.”
