they are playing st. paul westerberg’s “Someone I Once Knew” on the radio. this is regarded by most as one of pauly’s very worst songs. it’s not his strongest.
but the song will now and forever remind me of my friend promo joe. he hated that name, but he was stuck with it. promo joe and i used to work together. and the friday before my very first ever paul westerberg concert, i remember him asking me about it.
i told him how i was so nervous that i thought i might throw up. and instead of making fun of me like most everyone else did, joe looked at me and said “hey you someone i once knew, sit your butt down (which is a lyric from this song). when you get nervous, just think of that. because that’s the worst lyric every WRITTEN!”
