i was standing in line at the grocery store, digging around in my bag for my check card, when i noticed sara the swanky cell phone had a message. i popped her open and there was a text message from a phone number i didn’t recognize. “Do you know they have chocolate covered nutter butters [...]

ok after a few more listenings of the eels cover, i’ve decided that from this point forward if you want to get anything from me, anything at all. . . even if it’s just to pass the potatoes, you must refer to me has honeybaby.
that is all.

last night my body and my brain ganged up on me and said, “enough!” enough of the not getting to bed after 3 a.m. and then going to work. enough of this. enough. enough. enough. so yesterday afternoon i hit the sheets at about 5 p.m. and didn’t rouse until 8:30, only to go to [...]

a little bit of guilt

oftentimes i feel bad for heaping so much of my affection on Max and Nolie, i have two other nephews and a niece who i don’t write about nearly as much. Liam, of course is just a baby so there’s not much to write about. Cade, has no time for me when his beloved Auntie [...]

to get my mind off work, i turned to Toni Morrison’s The Bluest Eye. i wanted to pick up and dive into A.L. Kennedy’s Paradise, but taking one look at my reading list shows that i have let RP2005 get way off track. so tonight i stood in front of the bookshelves and flirted with [...]

• flirting with strange men
• green beans
• practicing with only my hands and imagination
• trail mix
• that achey feeling in my muscles that means i used them
• will smith
• going to bed early
• air conditioning

dude, the eels

the eels are gonna be on with Mary Lucia today! i am so excited. think they’ll play my new favorite song “hey man?”

the battle over the legacy of a South African Rain Queen is so utterly fascinating that i had to read it twice. i remember reading her obituary in the Times last week, and thinking the story seemed pretty interesting. Now it’s gotten a whole lot better.

top 25 thus far

i synched up Roland with Ogden this morning for the first time, in what felt like ages. i had to get the dresden dolls album onto Roland. once i got to work i took a gander at the Top 25 Most Played songs. I was surprised by quite a few of them. I had no [...]

when i decide it’s a good idea to stay up until 3:30 on a school night chatting with The Reporter
when i spend the weekend lifting, pulling, and moving a 6-foot x 6-foot bookcase
when i skip lunch because i want to go home early
when i refer to myself as chesty larue
whenever i touch the lump on [...]

last week saw the start of the Great Supergenius Headquarters Beautificaton Project of 2005. it was a rather small start, framing some pictures, deciding to rearrange the books, that kind of stuff. actually, it was the rearranging of the books that got me into all the trouble. because i have decided that i have truly [...]

“do you believe in aliens?” i asked max.
“yeah, i believe in aliens, but i don’t believe in god,” he said.
“ok.”
“i believe in god, but not in aliens,” jayice said.(because apparently max takes after his atheist mom and jaycie takes after her catholic, church-going dad)
“ok,” i said.
“my dad thinks that voice inside of his head when [...]

as most everyone knows by now, Karl Muller of Soul Asylum died Friday morning, he was 41. i’ve been thinking for two days what on earth to say about it all. it’s not that i new Muller. hell, i never even met the guy. but his music and his band sure as hell meant a [...]

you know, after you’ve had a bad weekend that involved serious head trauma and lumps. a weekend that included thrown hammers, sweaty frustration, and bruises on both arms and both legs. when you’ve had that kind of weekend, well everything can be made all better by a cat that curls up on your kind of [...]
