what’cha gonna spend your free life on?
since friday, i have been listening to the Live Current Vol. 1 CD on repeat. specifically, i’ve been listening to Dan Wilson’s song “Free Life.”
i am in love with this song. i’m generally a Dan Wilson fan anyway. . . even way back in the way back when Trip Shakespeare days. and i do believe i recently proclaimed Semisonic’s “F.N.T.” as one of the most romantic, wonderful songs ever.
but this song, this “Free Life” song, it just gets me. it’s funny too, because i remember when Dan Wilson played The Current the TTHM raved on and on about this song. i think i might have missed that episode of Mary Lucia’s show, and i was totally bummed that i couldn’t even find it in the In-Studio archives.
but now i have the song and i cannot get enough of it. there’s a line let’s fall in love again with music as our guide, we’ll raise our ready hands and let go for the ride, down into unknown lands where lover’s needn’t hide. that gets me every, single time. every time. the song is just so optimisitc and carpe-diem-y that it makes my insides melty.
you know, when they played it a coupla weeks ago I had to pull over cause the tears were just streaming. and then i heard it the next day and the same thing happened…must be getting soft
