When you’re standing oh so near, I kind of lose my mind

They always say that the universe only gives you as much as you can handle. The universe must have realized that I cannot handle anything today. My already-shortened fuse has been snipped to near non-existence by the sudden, suprise arrival of my period. If I were having sex with someone other than me, I’d have been worried. But I figured my monthly cycle was in hiding from all the work and family related stress.

When I got home tonight I had grand plans of curling up on the couch with the most vapid viewing material I could find. Instead, I spent an hour on the phone with Al, the cutest girl on earth™, providing technical and moral support. By that point my fuse vanished.

So after gathering up some dinner, I set about for the vapid viewing. Since nobody loves me enough to buy me a single season of Dawson’s Creek on DVD, my plan included popping some Sex and the City into the VCR at which point some hardcore brainless vegging would ensue. As I turned to pop the tape in the VCR, I remembered there is no VCR. I hadn’t ever plugged the nonsense in after Sister #4 took her super swanky TV with her to Udaho.

It was enough to send me over the edge, and I began to cry.

I sat in the comfy green chair snuffling and pouting and cursing the god that made me, while surfing through the 392 channels available for my viewing pleasure.

And what should my eye spy?

A motherfucking Dawson’s Creek marathon on Noggin. Praise be to Noggin. It is easily the best thing to happen to me in about a month.

I almost started to cry with you but then read about the marathon and sighed with relief. Then I saw the badge and gasped in horror.

Things I Want to Tell You

Someone needs to invent a bug repellent spray that not only keeps the mosquitoes away but includes some sort of anti-itch stuff to keep the bites you've already gotten from itching like crazy. [+]

Interview #2 at place I would enjoy working at went really well. I'm pretty pumped. [+]

Can I get an AMEN! This woman responds to the Jezebel Hullabaloo the way I wish I could have, had I not been blacking out with the rage. I agree that drinking a lot and having a lot of sex with different men is not feminism. It might be your lifestyle choice and a lot of fun -- go you, but it has nothing at all to do with being a feminist. I think once I simmer down a bit, I will chalk up the whole Hullabaloo to a few drunk 20something girls being stupid and naive, because, that's what 20something girls do. We've all done it, and not to get all sage woman of the earth, but something changes for women when they turn 30. I don't know what it is, I cannot define it, but other woman will agree 30 is a magical age where suddenly you seem more yourself, you think before you speak, you look back at your 20something self and realize what an idiot you were, but you still love that girl. I'm just hoping these Jezebel-girls will be so kind to their 20something selves when they look back at how absolutely foolish they were. {via fimoculous, whose comments are all men discussing the issue which makes me a little sad}. I had avoided the whole Jezebel hullabaloo until this morning when I was reading Mediation's thoughts on the nonsense. I followed his links to the Metafilter discussion and it was after watching the video there that I blacked out from sheer rage. I'm so angry I can't even write anything coherent. [+]

I just applied for a for reals job for the first time since 2000 (three fors in one sentence, go me). I feel a little like I'm going to barf. I forgot how nerve-wracking it is to want something like this. [+]
