Happy Halloween everybody
I was home for about four minutes, long enough to grab my camera, before I had to head to Sister #2’s for the Halloween photo op. On my way I stopped and grabbed some Chipotle.
“What’s that?” Nolie asked as soon as I walked up the stairs.
“Chips and guac.”
“Is it ucky?” he asked.
“No it’s delicious.”
“Lelicious?”
“Yes.”

Pretty girl keep growing up, playing make-up, wearing guitar
I’ve conned pretty much everyone I know into reading Frank Portman’s King Dork. If you haven’t read it, you should. It’ll be the best book you read all year.
In the book Chi-Mo, the main character, has a ‘band’ with his best friend. I say ‘band’ because they don’t do very much playing, and mostly just [...]
Vote for Ben
The Stink who keeps a religious blog on Vox (which makes sense considering he’s a theology major), is one of 10 finalists for a $5000 scholarship. Now they want people to vote. Vote for Ben Kimball, please.

Thanks to Jason Kottke, I found out about a $5,000 scholarship given out to bloggers. Most of my family are college students and bloggers, so I immediately put the word out. The Stink who keeps a religious blog on Vox (which makes sense considering he’s a theology major), is one of 10 finalists for the [...]

I made ribs for dinner. I am a dirty carnivore. yeeha.
I have not taken off my pajamas since Friday at about 10:30.
I installed Wordpress. Things look different around here.
I spent nearly an hour looking for a 2004 penny for Max.
I woke up at 6:40 this morning. Daylight’s saving can bite me.
It’s too late to turn [...]
Delete all
There is a large, hard-to-suppress part of me that wants to delete every single thing I’ve ever written on iwilldare.com and start fresh. Going through the past 6.5 years of my life tends to do that to me (really only 3, since I’m at October 2003 now). I’ve been combing the iwilldare.com archives for the [...]

My workshop tonight was tough. Super tough, mostly because it took so much of my energy not to giggle throughout the whole thing. My story had a character named Boobs LaRue (sound familiar?), and during the workshop people kept saying things like “I want more Boobs here” or “I’d really like to see Boobs. . [...]

The new office chairs we got last week are extra rolly. It’s nice, because I can easily roll back and forth, back and forth, back and forth over and over again. I’m filled with fidgety energy, and I haven’t even had a lick of caffeine today.
Tonight my short story “Hey Lady” will be workshopped in [...]
A sigh of relief
Sister #2 just called. Dad got the results of his ecocardiogram today. The news is good. While he does have congential heart failure, it’s mild and has been caught early. His doctor is going to send him to a cardiologist and together they’ll figure out the best way to treat it. While he’s not out [...]
Read moreHey Senator, I want to say, all the things you fought for did not die here today*
“He fought for the voiceless, the homeless, the poor, the little guy — in this country and beyond. He was a politician but not a robot; an idealist, but not a sap, and if his legacy has already morphed into myth, it’s because there were/are so few like him.”

Last night I attended The Loft’s Student Reading. FFJ decided she was going to read and I was there for moral support and to see the spectacle of a Loft Student Reading.

I think I’m going out of my head
Help! I woke up this morning with a song in my head and I don’t know the name of the song and it’s driving me absolutely crazy.
It’s some alt-rock duet from the mid-90s that much I’m sure of. It’s some guy and maybe someone like Hope Sandoval (Mazzy Star) or the chick from the [...]

Do you remember that scene in High Fidelity when Rob comes into Championship, limping? Dick and Barry are standing at the counter listening to the tape by Vince and Justin?
“Who is this,” Rob says.
“vince and Justin,” Dick says
“Who?” Rob asks.
“Those little skate fuckers,” Barry says.
“No way,” Rob says.
“Yes way. It’s really . . . It’s [...]
The perils of having Jeff Tweedy’s children
Sometimes I worry that I’m going to be a really bad mom. The worry goes beyond just the regular will I forget to turn off the stove stuff, or will I still be able to mom and write stuff. Tonight I worry about just being able to put aside my own needs and putting those [...]
