If I had a nickname (aside from jodichromeysupergenius), it would probably be The Nicknamer. Apparently I am getting quite a reputation as she who blesses people with nicknames. Last week I had someone I met for the first time demand a nickname.
Some of my writing ‘mates are begging for nicknames, and I feel guilty [...]

Chuck Klosterman in the A.V. Club
The Onion’s A.V Club has a little Q&A with Chuck Klosterman, prepare to roll your eyes so often and so hard you’re afraid they’ll get stuck. He seems to think that anyone who pans his book is a frustrated writer who is jealous of him. Barf.
tam likes nanowrimo
Tam defends her love of National Novel Writing Month in the face of naysayers (like me).
Adolescence is also a marketing ploy
Robin left a comment on this picture asking when Jaycie turned into a college student. I think it happened sometime in October when Jaycie turned nine.
She has announced on every occasion since then she is a ‘tween.’ Which means, she’ll tell you, that she’s between being a kid and being a teenager. Apparently this has [...]
Dear Mike “We’re on a break” Doughty,
There’s a guy that works at Hell, Inc. who drives a giant red pick-up truck, it’s a supersize version of my beloved Ruby. Like my Ruby, his truck has a one of those 3-letter oval bumper stickers. While mine says ‘MWT’ for Man without Ties, his says ‘BNL’ for [...]
rock it for largehearted boy
Big ups for my favorite e-crush the Largehearted Boy for his PLUG award nomination in the best music blog category. You should rock your vote for him, he is totally deserving.
another vote for the suckiness of NaNoWriMo
I am not alone in my abhorrence of National Novel Writing Month.
Scenes from a super secret project
I picked Jaycie up at 8:30 this morning and we headed downtown. I don’t think she stopped talking until we arrived at 9:15. I learned that she’s the second oldest in her class, and that Katie’s birthday is tomorrow, and that Booker really, really loves football and everyone knows he loves football and when they [...]
Pondering the benefits of becoming a hermit
Princess Jaycie and I have to go downtown to Al, the cutest girl on earth’s™ studio tomorrow. We’re working on a super secret project. As I type it’s rainy-snowing out and my stomach hurts. I’ve got all kinds of anxiety when it comes to driving in the winter.
My phobia started when Sister #2’s best [...]
I can’t tell which is lamer saying ‘I’m sorry’ or singing Chicago’s ‘Hard to Say I’m Sorry’ in my head
FFJ’s mom died yesterday. She had been suffering from some sort of autonomic disease with a long name that I can’t remember. I’m finding it incredibly hard to write because I have fallen under the spell of Darryl Hall’s glorious mullet on VH1 Classics. It’s mesmerizing. (also his eyebrows are more groomed than mine)
FFJ called [...]

Dear Vodo,
Sometimes I feel bad for giving you so much shit Vodo, darling. Every once in awhile, I think that maybe I should let up on what a horrible teacher you are and how you pull my hair and make me cry. But I don’t ever want to be one of your doe-eyed sycophants. Not [...]
The Bowling Grinch
“Oh let her bowl,” Craig mouthed to me.
“No,” I shook my head at him.
The man and his six-year-old daughter took one last look at the lanes filled with smoking and drinking men, and then left.
“All she wanted to do was bowl,” Craig said.
“So?”
“You’re mean!”
“I am,” I said. “But I am not going to stay here [...]
