The bitches prepare

FFJ and I are preparing for the next episode of the Bookclub Bitches podcast. And by preparing, I mean reading the book Remainder and having a brief talk about it.

“Did you finish Remainder?” FFJ asked.
“Not yet,” I said. “But I am so in love with it.”
“Why do you love it?” she asked.
“Because it’s so original and it’s so foreboding. You know nothing good is going to come of this. Did you finish it?”
“Oh god no.”
“It takes awhile to get into,” I said. “But once you do, it gets really, really good.”
“I just got to the part where he did the first “run through” at the apartment building.”
“And you haven’t started loving it yet?” I asked.
“I don’t love it yet.”
“Oh, I loved it by then.”
“I like it though,” she said. “But I don’t like it like it.”
“I want to ask it to the Sadie Hawkins dance,” I said.
“I’d snowball skate with it, but i don’t think I’d let it hold my hand,” she said.
“I would let it get to second base,” I said.

So, what would it take for an internet stalker to get to second base, hypothetically-speaking?

  2. The answer is clear: original, foreboding and a sense that nothing good is going to come of this.

  3. I was very skeptical of this book, given the amount of hype that the marketing folks at Random House were tossing around, but I found it fascinating.
