My first screenplay
Music Geeks, the Argument: A Play in One Act by Jodichromeysupergenius
INT. DARK BAR — NIGHT
A group of eight people, five men, three women sit on plastic chairs in a secluded area of a divey kind of bar. They are seated around two formica tables that have been pushed together. One row of people sit with their backs to the windows of the bar. The windows look out over a not really busy street of a midwestern city.
There are five different conversations going on around the table. Each person seems to be engaged in talking with the person directly across from them.
The jukebox blares Cheap Trick’s “Surrender” so everyone at the table seems to be shouting.
VODO a sparse hipster-looking guy with geek glasses sits across from JODI an abundant nerdy-looking girl in an orange sweater.
He’s so fucking contrived. I saw him once and he had all these people on stage and they had choreographed hand gestures.
Vodo gestures like he’s interpretive dancing with only his hands.
Sure it’s contrived, but you can be contrived and still be good. I don’t see how you can like Andrew Bird and not like Sufjan Stevens.
They aren’t the same.
They aren’t, but they are similar.
You know who I really like? TV on the Radio
(incredulous)
Really?
Yeah, they’re amazing.
(skeptically)
Really?
Yes, “Return to Cookie Mountain” is better than the new Hold Steady album
(astonished)
Really?
You don’t like it?
I haven’t really given it much of a chance, it just doesn’t. . .
It’s too weird for you.
No
It’s not indie rock, it’s like R&B but. . .
TV on the Radio?
Listen you like Hall & Oats, right?
Yes but that has nothing to do with their goodness or badness.
How do you feel about Ryan Adams
I like him but kind of stopped paying attention when he started releasing a record a month.
See?
Come on, I know he’s trying to be Paul Westerberg but he’s got some decent songs.
Vodo sits back, crosses his arms and smirks.
“Come Pick Me Up” is a wonderful song.
Vodo shakes his head.
And the Whiskeytown stuff is phenomenal
They’re just so derivative
Oh fuck you
They are.
Fuck off
Do you even know what derivative means?
Jodi gives Vodo the finger
THE END

I checked out TV on the Radio when I got home cuz I hate not knowing what people are talking about. Wow. Gotta go with Vodo on this one. They’re great. At least the 2 songs I listened to-Wolf Like Me and Province.
06 Apr 07 at 10:38 pm #Hmm, I might have to rewrite my screenplay to include a part for a mysterious TRAITOR!
06 Apr 07 at 10:42 pm #I would like to point out that the author acknowledges in this screen play that Jodi does in fact both tell Vodo to fuck off AND gives him the finger.
Just saying.
06 Apr 07 at 10:43 pm #And yet, you were the bad student he was ripping on last night. HA!
06 Apr 07 at 10:44 pm #So this is going to be a long term thing…okay, but don’t make me pull out the big guns.
(Note: I don’t know exactly what those are, but I’m sure I’ll come up with something.)
06 Apr 07 at 10:48 pm #I am sure it’ll be a ‘thing’ until next week when I get sent back to the bad-student corner and you’re back to being the pet.
