Author readings make booknerds happy

Last night I stayed up entirely too late reading Brock Clarke’s An Arsonist’s Guide to Writers’ Home in New England (thanks for the book, Largehearted Boy).

I’m only two chapters in, but I am loving it. It’s a hilarious novel about Sam Pulsifer a guy who accidentally burned down Emily Dickinson’s house when he was 18. Sam’s voice is amazing.

So imagine my delight and surprise when I was reading in the PiPress this morning that Clarke is going to reading at The Loft on Tuesday at 7 p.m. How awesome is that?

I love going to see author’s read. It’s almost better then going to a concert of my favorite band. Why? Because you get way more opportunity to see your favorite band then you ever do to go see an author whose book you enjoy. I can’t wait.

P.S. You should also check out Clarke’s Largehearted Boy Book Notes essay.

  1. As book tours get scarcer, I am almost always inclined to catch an author I love over a band I love.

The book is wonderful… and it only gets better as the plot thickens (or smolders, in this case).
