Poor Nellie
Because I have a short story due tomorrow and a New Pornographers’ concert tonight I decided that I couldn’t do much of anything until after “Little House on the Prairie” was over. This girl’s got priorities.
It just so happens that this is the episode where Laura falls in love with Alamanzo Wilder and Nellie falls for Perceval. Oh hell yes.
Only, since I haven’t seen this show since about 1983, I didn’t realize that Nellie was so much taller then Perceval. In this episode Nellie and Caroline have a very heart-warming discussion about whether or not men can groove on taller than them women.
“Mrs. Ingalls, can I ask you a question?”
“Certainly.”
“Well do men ever like women who are taller than they are.”
“Some men do.”
“Well most men don’t, do they?”
“I don’t know what the percentages are.”
“Well it can’t be very high, I can’t think of man in Walnut Grove whose wife is taller than he is.”
“Well I just think most men are taller than women are.”
“Hrmph,” Nellie says.
“A man might like a taller woman but he just can’t find one.”
God love Mrs. Ingalls, she always was a smart and wise woman.

I don’t know what’s worse … you procrastinating by watching LHotP or me procrastinating by reading about it! I have a feature article due tomorrow and no sources yet. Maybe I should flip channels until I find me some Mrs. Ingals!

16 Oct 07 at 6:23 pm #I am still trying to incorporate the word douchebag into my writing. Do you read Details? They toss that word about like candy at a parade. It still strikes me as crass, but I’m trying to lighten up. PS _ I drank margaritas instead of loooking for sources toinght. OOPS. Procrastination? Holla.
16 Oct 07 at 9:04 pm #Oh! Did Pa cry in this episode too? It’s been too long since I’ve seen the show to remember that episode; I look back on Little House on the Prairie and all I can remember is Pa crying a lot. Mrs. Ingals is a wise woman, but she sure married a pussy.
