And now this happened
Remember how almost exactly one month ago I got a raise and promotion? Guess who got laid off today? It’s me! It’s me!

I'm Jodi Chromey, a writer who lives in Minnesota. This is the story of my life. You can reach me at jodi@iwilldare.com.
Shut the fuck up.
We should totally start a club.
28 Nov 07 at 11:38 pm #Yeah, we should start a club. But, I won’t technically be unemployed until the first week in March, because I have to “transfer knowledge.”
28 Nov 07 at 11:42 pm #Oh holy shit that sucks. I’ve been there, too… and yes, I know that my being laid off doesn’t help you one bit. However, I do know how you feel. At least you have time to start looking for something else. You know, there are lots of jobs in Houston…
28 Nov 07 at 11:53 pm #“Transfer knowledge”. That’s funny. I would not be able to have a good attitude about that. At all.
29 Nov 07 at 1:03 am #You mean you get to enjoy this joyful holiday season without the hassle of having to work! Awesome! :o)
29 Nov 07 at 6:04 am #The only “knowledge” I would bother to “transfer” would be how to say very bad words in several different languages.
29 Nov 07 at 8:00 am #I’m upset, but I’m not angry. This is business in America, sadly. Like I told my sorta-boss yesterday, if you’re gonna have to lose your job this is a nice way to do it. I got three months notice, some people didn’t. I was lucky.
29 Nov 07 at 8:29 am #What??? That sucks, but it’s good you’re looking on the bright side. Maybe you’ll be able to line something else up by March. They better give you a STELLAR recommendation.
29 Nov 07 at 9:07 am #Sorry to hear about your layoff, though as you say, the notice is a good thing. As soon as I read your post, I realized I read something in the Strib about a Canuckian company laying off locally.
Perhaps there’s a local bowling alley that could be had for a low price!
29 Nov 07 at 9:46 am #That was my company in the Strib — bleh.
I feel a little like I stepped out of Corporate Canada and right into bizarro world. It’s like I have a job but not really. I wonder if this is how lame duck presidents feel.
29 Nov 07 at 9:50 am #When I got my “ticket to freedom,” I was what they call “pre-notified.” That is, I was pre-notified that I was going to be laid off in two weeks. After the meeting, the boss said I could either continue on the work I was doing, of go home. I smiled, locked my office door, and went home. I returned two weeks later, picked up my stuff, and walked right back out the door.
29 Nov 07 at 10:40 am #that sucks! you’ve been there a long time. in order to make things easier for you i have decided to not include a long link in this post that will break your design layout.
29 Nov 07 at 11:07 am #Your thougtfulness is much appreciated.
29 Nov 07 at 11:09 am #I am so sorry to hear that - i’ve gone through it a few times myself, and there’s nothing really comforting that can make it all better, other than that we all know how truly awesome you are, and that we know you will make it through, and that you do not deserve this level of crap in your life.
29 Nov 07 at 11:23 am #Holy macaroni!
Well that blows goats. But now you can get a real job in the city and move to the city and become a human being instead of being a suburban gutter-punk.
29 Nov 07 at 1:12 pm #Oh, and, this clinches it. I’m sending you something.
29 Nov 07 at 1:14 pm #&^%$@#!!!!! Oh and FUCK!!! Sorry to hear this news. They think you can transfer all of your knowledge elsewhere in 3 months??? I don’t think I could do it. But then again I’d have to. Hang in there.
29 Nov 07 at 2:16 pm #Sorry to hear about this, Jodi. This just frees you up to find the next exciting adventure on this exciting ride you’ve been on for the past year or so. Sometimes it is the unintentional push that moves us on to bigger and better things.
29 Nov 07 at 2:41 pm #i’m sorry, jodi. that’s all i can say. good luck, and you know how to contact me if you need anything.
29 Nov 07 at 3:27 pm #I just heard this on the radio up here (yes, it was actually reported on Minnesota News Network) and immediately thought of visiting your site to see what you had to say - that really sucks!!! But there are definitely greener pastures ahead of you!
29 Nov 07 at 4:20 pm #Sorry, Jodi. That sucks, but I’m glad to see you’re taking it in stride.
29 Nov 07 at 5:48 pm #unemployment and a part time job under the table might be cool for a spell.sorry, good luck
29 Nov 07 at 7:09 pm #I’m so sorry to hear about that… At least they gave you some warning. (WTF is “transfer knowledge” ?!?!?! Sounds like some lame Corporate USA thing they made up in their last off-site circle jerk.)
Completely unrelated, are those Lamy Safaris in your new header?
29 Nov 07 at 9:07 pm #Yes those are Lamy Safaris. I love those pens.
Also, Thank you all for your kind kind thoughts. Y’all are so damn nice.
30 Nov 07 at 1:29 pm #I love my Lamies too — red, blue, yellow (all extra fine nibs) fountain pens. My husband thinks its weird that I prefer a $20 plastic fountain pen to my wicked nice $80 metal fountain pen. Eh. I prefer him to “better” models, so maybe he shouldn’t press his luck. *grin*
