I was tooling around town in Ruby this evening with the windows down, the sweet smell of lilacs in the air, and Rod Stewart on the radio. It was perfect.
As is the general rule in Ruby I was singing along as loud as I could. I am an unapologetic car-singer and I figure if [...]
Word nerd turns on the radio
Secret Lives of Great Authors is the kind of book that you should read in the company of others. It’s filled with odd bits of trivia that you want to share with someone the instant you read them, and without sharing the trivia seems to fly right out of your head.
I was going to [...]
Sometimes I can’t think of a proper headline
As a young divorcee I spend all my Facebook time getting my ass kicked at Scrabulous by people who are much smarter than I am. Mostly, because I can’t quite figure out what else Facebook is good for and have no idea what in the hell a Lil Green Patch is. People are always surprised [...]

The woman with the incredible shrinking feet
Since I was about thirteen or maybe fourteen (and 6′1″ thankyouverymuch) I’ve worn a men’s size 12 shoe. Since I wear a men’s size 12 shoe, I generally abhor shopping for shoes because I have to get clunky, ugly man-shoes and not sparkly, cute girl-shoes. This is one of the greatest tragedies of my life, [...]
The questions that try women’s souls
Does making the Tibbles watch the 40 Most Softsational Soft Rock songs on VH1 Classics constitute child abuse? How about if I sing along to every single song at the top of my lungs?
Big Betty & Zhian
Have I told you about Big Betty? Big Betty is a GIANT hp laptop I got last week from the old place of employment. They had a googob of computer equipment they needed to get rid of I scored an old hp that’s roughly the size of Rhode Island. In fact it’s the same kind [...]

This is why I never, ever get anything done
When two-thirds of the mammals in your household are napping within eyesight, it hardly seems fair that the lone one-third should have to toil away at the toiling. It doesn’t help in the least that Madison is curled up in that one sunny patch. Much like him, I too love to curl up in sunny [...]
The douche endures despite my complaints
It’s not even noon and today’s blog-douche count is already at six. Seriously folks, there are other adjectives out there. Maybe I need to buy the Internet a thesaurus.
Hey, speaking of, when you were a kid did you ever read that book about the bunch of kids who got put into the lowest reading [...]

Serendipity finds my inbox
This is what my gmail inbox looks like right now. It cracks me up because Peabo was named after Peabo Bryson. It is only now that I realize the nickname is kind of erroneous, as she should probably be called James Ingram, but that’s not as good of a nickname.
Peabo got her name while [...]
Miranda July interviews her paperback
Miranda July’s interview with the paperback version No One Belongs Here More Than You is interesting and frustrating just like her book. I like that she humanizes the book, but the sound is horrible — like I had to hold Jed up to my ear just to hear what she was saying.
