Things have been a bit quiet here this week. That’s because I am saving it all up from tomorrow. See, tomorrow is our big Website Challenge event. It’s where we get 120 nerds in a room to build website for Minnesota nonprofits in 24 hours.
Yep.
I’ll be blogging for The Nerdery for the next 24 [...]

I dare say Pride & Prejudice shall be a pain in my ass
For the few weeks or so I’ve been listening to Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice when I wake up in the morning and before I go to bed at night. It’s a nice way to bookend the day, plus it gives me a chance to catch up on the backlog of audiobooks that I downloaded [...]

Giving up on Watchmen
I’ve been slowly picking through Watchmen since about September. I’d get so far in the book and then come to the poorly written autobiography stuff and stop. I’d pick it up a few weeks later and have to start all over from the beginning because I had no idea what was going on.
During the Superbowl, [...]

Precursor to doom
My lower right eyelid keeps spazzing. And by keeps, I mean I’ve noticed it doing this for the last five minutes or so. Probably gonna have a stroke or something.

Toxic February
If you lived inside of my head lately this is what you’d hear, “Grrrrrrrr. Blah. Suck. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Suck, hate, suck, suck hatey suck suck. Grrr. Suck it. Bite me. Suck suck.”
I’ve been a joy to be around. So fucking cranky that I can’t even stand myself so I spend all my time avoiding thought usually [...]

I liked Wonder Boys despite my best intentions
I really wanted to dislike Wonder Boys. I even tried to dislike it. I mean, here it was a book about writers (barf) by Michael Chabon (barf) who kind of gives me the willies (I think it’s the hair). Despite all that, Wonder Boys still crawled into my heart.
So we’ve got pot-smoking, wife-cheating, never-ending-novel [...]

Things you ought not admit to if you work at a place called The Nerdery
You don’t know it’s insulting to confuse Star Wars with Star Trek
You haven’t actually seen Star Wars or Star Trek
You think Back to the Future is the best trilogy ever
You didn’t watch Lord of the Rings
Because you hated reading The Hobbit in 8th grade

The English Major
I’m the type of reader who doesn’t often read reviews of books that I want to read. I read all kinds of reviews of books that I’ve never even heard of, but if the book is on my list I wait until after I’ve finished it to read any reviews. This nearly killed me a [...]

A day built out of love
These are the sweet Valentine’s I got from Messenger Bird Press. These letterpress cards are thick and sexy as hell. I meant to send to one to every person I love (or one of the robot cards I picked up). I, of course, got bored about halfway through writing them and stopped. Then something shiny [...]

A bourgeois luxury
Do you ever just stare and stare and stare at a blank page and will the words to come? I’ve been doing that for two days and it’s not coming. So it’s time to just suffer through it and get back to what I do best (I mean aside from napping and reading books).
Besides [...]

Conversations from Tibble Wednesday
“Valentine’s Day is Friday,” Liam said.
“Yes,” I said.
“Valentine’s Day was built on love,” he said.
—————
“Do you have to go potty?” I asked.
“No,” Liam said.
“Why do you keep holding your penis?”
“I want to make sure to take it with me.”

Why being a booknerd is so much easier than being a musicgeek
Sometime last week I was chatting with Chris from Culture Bully about blogging and the writers who make our respective sites (I was talking about MN Reads) so good. We talked a little bit about his desire to pay writers and that made my heart happy.
I like it when people want to pay writers. Writers [...]
