You will undoubtedly read, hear, or try to avoid something about the Sex in the City movie this week. I did some reading and a lot of avoiding. What I read was not good, and I went to the movie this afternoon* completely prepared to hate the materialistic dreck that so many reviewers had dubbed [...]

A riddle

How many times can Cars be watched in a five-day period? 67. I’m not even kidding.

Getting up after 11, even though you stayed up after 3 reading The Learners is a good way to ruin the day. You spend the whole day in some sort of funk-like malaise with no drive to do anything but sit in your La-Z-Grrl and watch “The Big Chill” which you’d never seen before this [...]

A matinee for lunch

For lunch today, I went to see Juno. It was filling and good, just like a lunch should be. I can’t tell if I liked the movie so much because it was so damn good, or because Paulie Bleeker reminded me of that Chicagoan who decimated my heart a few years back. It has been [...]

I am tempting fate right now by watching “Fahrenheit 451″ on the DeeVer. If I am struck down in my sleep, you’ll know why.

Thanks Mr. Narwahl

Elf and A Christmas Story are both on at the same time! It’s the best thing to ever happen to a commercial break.

I’ve decided, sitting here in the dark trying not to fall asleep, that “Mr. Holland’s Opus” while perhaps not the saddest movie ever made (Hotel Rwanda, that Bjork movie I can’t think of the name of. . . many others) is probably the movie that makes you cry the most.
Seriously.
If you don’t cry [...]

Sometimes my married friends and sisters will express envy regarding my glamorous single life. They long for the days where they could do whatever they want, whenever they want without consulting anyone.
I can totally see why. Because you know what I’ve done so far on this glorious late-summer day? Grocery shopped, came home to dine [...]

Rat-a-too-ee

Jaycie, Max, and I went to see Ratatouille this afternoon. Yes, as a matter of fact, I do only go to cartoon movies. They’re perfect for my adult-onset ADD.
As with all Pixar fare the movie is stunning. The attention those people pay to detail amazes me every time. Seriously the fur on the [...]

Last night I discovered that everyone in my entire Vodo class loved that smarmy, predictable dreck of a movie that was “Little Miss Sunshine.” Bleh. At one point Vodo turned to me and said, “Listen Black T-shirt, go blog your bitterness. We’re happy. We celebrate life.” Or some such bullshit.
Anyway, Johnny the Greek (new favorite [...]

News to me: Raymond Carver’s story “So Much Water So Close to Home” has been turned into a movie called Jindabyne. Interesting.

Lest anyone think I am totally losing it, I am well aware and quite excited for the upcoming movie Open Season. I’ve promised Princess Jaycie and Maxwell Pufnstuf that we’ll be seeing it opening weekend. Not only does St. Paul Westerberg play a voice in the movie, he also contributes a ton of songs to [...]

When I was a kid, I loved teen movies. I ate them up — Sixteen Candles, Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink, Some Kind of Wonderful. When I was 12, 16, or 22 I was pretty sure that love would be just like in these movies. I was sure Heidi Homecoming and Quinton Quarterback would stay [...]

So, you be the judge is Jay saying “noyg noyg noyg” or is he saying “noinch noinch noinch?”

* The credit for the awesome title of this post goes to Aden, there has been no better title for a review of Clerks 2 that I have seen.
There aren’t many movies I’m willing to go see in at the movie theater. 2+hour movies + my ADD = a bad time. So it’s only very [...]
