Yesterday, while putting the great room of Supergenius HQ back together I spent a lot of time learning about architecture on the TV. PBS was running this Ken Burns’ special on Frank Lloyd Wright and then aired an American Masters about Frank Gehry (dude who did the Weisman). Apparently to be a great architect one [...]
Cleaning about architecture
It’s Niles dumbasses
The hosebeasts on the Today Show keep referring to David Hyde Pierce’s character on “Frasier” as Miles. They did it about three times. Don’t they have researchers for this?
Spiritual connection
Sometimes when I watch Rock of Love I get so giddy and joyful that I squirm in my chair and cackle. I realize that I should feel guilty for taking so much pleasure from something so patently offensive and awful and yet I don’t.
Not sure what to be the most embarrassed about
1. That I turned off CNN’s post-debate debrief in favor of
2. An old episode of Who’s the Boss (I’m actually working on my online portfolio, so I’m doing something productive and just needed background noise) where I immediately
3. Recognized Sam’s date for the dance as Ralphie from A Christmas Story, and at the dance
4. They [...]
Kiss mah grits
I just watched an episode of Alice. I have reached the pinnacle of slackerdom.
Cleaning out the DeeVeR
I don’t have TiVO, I have the generic video recording device shilled by Comcast. I call it the DeeVeR. However, I when I have sheduled a recording, I call it ‘tivoing.’ Just so we all got our terminology straight.
This morning/afternoon, I’ve been playing catching up with Internet and doing some housekeeping around Paul Westerberg.net [...]
Poor Nellie
Because I have a short story due tomorrow and a New Pornographers’ concert tonight I decided that I couldn’t do much of anything until after “Little House on the Prairie” was over. This girl’s got priorities.
It just so happens that this is the episode where Laura falls in love with Alamanzo Wilder and Nellie falls [...]
MTV has a reality-show called Life of Ryan about an adorable 16-year-old professional skateboarder. Yeah.
First of all let me tell you that this whole sordid affair began in one of my weaker moments. I was exhausted and all my mental faculties had been pushed to their breaking point after having spent the night babysitting all five of the kidlings.
It was really quite late on a Saturday night, or perhaps [...]
Impossible nerdery
It’s 11:47 on a Saturday night. I am a single 35-year-old woman, watching a Paul Simon special on PBS, and I just paused it to go to the bathroom because I didn’t want to miss any of it. This is probably why I am a single 35-year-old woman watching PBS on a Saturday night.
For about a week I’ve had the theme to “The Greatest American Hero” stuck in my head on repeat. Now you probably will too.
My bra is coming off
There’s a scene in “Thelma and Louise” where Geena Davis talks about how she’s gonna let loose and she says all southern-like “My hair is comin’ down.” Eventually she has sex with Brad Pitt and then drives off a cliff.
I’m doing the same thing today, without the sex and the cliff driving. I can’t [...]
A Supergenius’ Progress or, Hey, I know that guy
So I made it as far as putting all the fiction away. This was the coffee table before, and now there’s only four books on there, all which have to go upstairs to the Fortress of Solitude. I have, however, been totally waylaid in my effort to put all the books away. While trolling through [...]
Looking like a train wreck
I was glued to my chair and my eyes are started to water because I hadn’t blinked in 43 minutes. While enjoying my solo sans pants time this evening, I started channel surfing and landed on The Real World: Denver. I was immediately mesmerized. Don’t judge me, you too would have been unable to surf [...]
My opinions when it come to quality television programming are probably not held in high regard. I generally spend my TV time crying in front of Dawson’s Creek reruns that I’ve seen before, watching My So-Called Life (which was cancelled in 1995), or Project Runway.
So when I tell you that “Studio 60 on the Sunset [...]
